Manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials

Division 16 is wood processing — one of Latvia's largest and most export-oriented manufacturing sectors. It splits into two groups: sawmilling and wood treatment (16.1) and products of wood, cork, straw and plaiting materials (16.2). It includes sawmills, pellet and particle-board makers, and joineries. A few large exporters lead the market, alongside many small companies. The work is capital-intensive.
