Other mining and quarrying

Division 08 is the core of Latvian mining. It has two groups: quarrying of stone, sand and clay (08.1) and mining n.e.c. (08.9), which includes peat extraction. In practice it means peat extraction and the quarrying of gravel, sand, dolomite and clay. The work is capital-intensive with few employees; a handful of large peat exporters sit at the top, while most companies are small quarries.
